Things of the Least - Manchester Art Gallery
The exhibition is part of a 3-year project that explores how very young children under 3 years old, interact with objects in museums and galleries.
The project celebrates things that are often forgotten or considered least in gallery practices and society—like the ideas of babies and toddlers, the opinions, thoughts and ideas of families typically absent from the sector, and the challenge of exhibiting objects that aren’t seen as art but still have interesting stories.
At the heart of the exhibition is the Mary Greg Collection—an idiosyncratic collection of domestic and childhood objects that are in poor condition but with a distinct curiosity.
Six Artists, Jackie Haynes, Becky Shaw, Naomi Kendrick, Josie Flynn, Josephine Hepplewhite and Myself were tasked with interpreting the collection, interactions between under 3s and our Artist play kits into an exhibition made for and with under 3s.
My largest contribution to the exhibition involved the fabrication of a large scale 'Bird' sculpture in the centre of the gallery.
